Zambrotta: Milan Players Support Ancelotti & Believe In Scudetto

The Rossoneri were eliminated from the UEFA Cup last night but the players have thrown their support behind their under-fire coach.

Milan could only manage a 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen in their UEFA Cup clash last night, meaning that the Italian giants were eliminated on away goals, following their 1-1 draw in Germany a week prior.

Andrea Pirlo and Alexandre Pato grabbed the goals for Milan, both in the first half, only for Claudio Pizarro to net a brace in the final 25 minutes of play.

Gianluca Zambrotta was one of very few players to give his thoughts on the match after its conclusion, as the Italian club were understandably distraught with one of their most disappointing performances of the season.

“To suffer a comeback like that really hurts, and that has proven to be one of our major problems this season,” Zambrotta affirmed in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Unfortunately we have not been making the best choices to avoid goals in the latter stages of matches, as was the case tonight once again.

“We will try to improve in this area, as we continue to fight for the Scudetto.

“Our journey in the UEFA Cup may be over, but the league is not, and as there are many matches to be played, we still believe that we have a chance of winning the championship.

“Obviously we will continue to challenge for the top three positions, which represent one of our goals, to qualify for the Champions League next season,” he continued.

The Italian international had some final comments to make regarding his coach Carlo Ancelotti, whose position is certain to come under threat following this disastrous outcome.

“We are all tired and disappointed because we gave everything right to the very end.

“Our coach is a great support to us, but obviously he will be put under more pressure following this result.

“Choices surrounding his future will be made by the president and the club, not by the players.

“We must be more united and overcome this negative period we are currently experiencing together,” he concluded.

Milan will have the chance to ease the pressure on their coach this weekend, when they travel to Genoa to face Sampdoria.
