Hughes: Manchester City Must Take Kaka Opportunity

Sparky has urged his higher-ups to move swiftly as they continue their chase for Brazil's superstar midfielder...

Reports from the Italian press would have you believe that Kaka already has one foot in the door at Eastlands, but Mark Hughes dispelled that notion on Sunday when he said the AC Milan star was still "a million miles away".

Nevertheless, the Manchester City manager clearly hopes the club's negotiators possess tongues that wag at the speed of light, as he wants that ground made up and the deal done as quickly as possible.

Hughes said in The Sun, “It may be that in the future a deal to bring Kaka to Manchester City will never present itself again. So when it does, you have to follow it through.

“You have to react quickly when the opportunity comes to acquire a player of that standard. You can’t hang about and think we’ll wait until the next window.

“If we can do it, we feel it would be fantastic for this club. But there are a lot of things to be addressed before we get there.”

It is thought the Citizens are offering a package of around €271 million for Kaka, €120 million of which will make up the player's wages over the course of five years.

But Hughes added, “I’m disappointed with some of the things said. They stem from wild speculation about what the final figure will be and how much the boy will earn. People are plucking numbers from the sky, doubling them and adding a zero.”
