Mexes Dreams Of Becoming Roma’s Maldini
In a recent interview, the Giallorossi's French stopper expressed his admiration for the Milan veteran.
Philippe Mexes has been an integral part of Roma's dramatic turnaround this term, putting in consistently excellent performances at the back.
Since controversially signing from Auxerre in 2004, Mexes has gone on to become one of the Serie A’s most dominant defenders, and he continues to improve with each and every match he plays.
The 26-year-old's form has seen him linked to several clubs across Europe, and recently he has been tipped as a potential replacement for Milan’s Paolo Maldini, who is set to finally hang up the boots at the conclusion of the season.
Despite these rumours, however, the French defender has affirmed that he is content in Rome, and instead of replacing Maldini at Milan, he would like to replicate the success and dominance of the veteran without leaving the Italian capital.
“I dream of becoming Roma’s very own Maldini,” Mexes declared in an interview with the French television program TF1.
“It would be nice to replicate what Paolo has been able to do and achieve with his club here in Rome.
“I have not had any contact with Milan over time, and I can confirm that I am very happy in Rome.
“Although in football you can never plan for the future.”
Mexes will be in action for Roma this weekend, when they travel south to face Reggina at the Oreste Granillo stadium in Calabria.
